Site of Church that was Built in 1908

The church was one block east of the family home on the South side of the road. It was a beautiful rock building with hardwood floors that were great for dances. You came into a small foyer with hooks for coats to be hung and staircases going up each side to go up to the balcony. The benches were removable, but when it was time for a dance, they were pushed back to the side, and others were left open for people to sit. Two of them were put together so that the babies could lie down to sleep and not be disturbed while mom and dad were out dancing. The nice hardwood floor was great for dancing. They would sprinkle granular wax on the floor to ease the movement.
A small stage and staircase led downstairs to the basement where Junior Sunday school was held. Off of the Junior Sunday School room was a door that led to a strip of three classrooms. Grandpa Oleen was in the bishopric for many years and then the Bishop for 12 years until the Belmont ward was created. After the Belmont ward was constructed, the property for the old church was sold. The nice rock building that had been there for so many years was torn down, and the area was used for horses.
With Dad being Bishop, we were always the first to arrive and the last to leave the church. Sunday School was at 10:00 AM, and the Sacrament meeting was at 7:30 that night. If lucky, we could get Dad to fry some chicken, make a potato salad, and take a trip up Logan Canyon for a picnic lunch between meetings.
